I have been building rods for over 30years. In the early day’s we used cellulose dope and polyurathane varnish to finish off a rod and anyone who could tie a ring onto a fishing rod called themselves a rod builder.
How things have changed. We no longer use dope or polyurathane varnish instead we use an epoxy resin to finish off the rod rings, however we do still have those who can tie a ring on a blank and claim to be rod builders.
